INTRAVENOUS (IV) SEDATION
Please follow these instructions for your upcoming surgical appointment:
- Have absolutely nothing to eat or drink, including water, gum or candy, from the midnight prior to your surgery. On the morning of your surgery, you may brush your teeth but refrain from swallowing any water.
- If you are required to take prescription medications, you may take your pills with a sip of water, unless instructed otherwise.
- Wear a short-sleeved shirt and loose-fitting comfortable clothing. Please do not wear nail polish, perfume, high heels, or contact lenses. Remove nasal and oral piercings, if possible.
- Arrange to have an adult accompany you home from your appointment, and to stay with you for 4-6 hours after surgery, or until you have fully recovered from the sedative effects of your procedure. Do not drive or operate machinery for 24 hours after your surgery, or after taking pain medication.
- Do not smoke, drink alcohol or use any recreational drugs for 24 hours prior to your surgery. Smoking is strongly discouraged for 7-14 days after surgery.
- Full Payment of Surgical Fees is due on the day of surgery. Please notify the office at 416-538-2002, two business days prior to your surgery, if you need to change your appointment. Because time has been set aside just for you, a fee of 50% of the total surgical fee may be charged for appointments missed or cancelled with insufficient notice.
- Please bring government issued identification such as a HEALTH CARD or driver's licence with you to your appointment, so that you may receive your pain medication prescription.
