ORAL SEDATION PROTOCOL

If you are planning on having ORAL SEDATION (sedative pills) for your surgical appointment, you must follow these instructions:

  1. Please do not have anything to eat or drink, including gum, candy or water, TWO (2) hours prior to your appointment.
  2. If you are required to take prescription medications, you may take your pills with a sip of water on the morning of your appointment, unless instructed otherwise.
  3. Please wear a short-sleeved shirt, as this will provide easy access to placement of a blood pressure monitor.
  4. Please do not wear nail polish, perfume, high heels, or contact lenses and remove oral piercings, if possible.
  5. You must arrange to have an adult accompany you to and from your appointment, and to stay with you until you are fully recovered from the effects of your oral sedative medication.  Refrain from making any important decisions while under the influence of sedative medication.  Do not drive or operate machinery for 24 hours after your surgery, or after taking pain medication.
  6. Do not smoke or drink alcohol for 24 hours prior to your surgery.
  7. Arrangement for payment of office fees must be made in advance of your procedure, before you are under the influence of sedative medications.
  8. Please bring your HEALTH CARD with you to your appointment, so that you may receive a prescription for pain medication, as required.
